A Statement from the Chair in Sexual Health
In light of the recent U.S. election, I know that many people are scared, frightened, angry, and confused right now. Still, others see that change is necessary.
While change is unsettling, this election does not change who we are. We will rise up and be the best of who we are in the face of these uncertain times.
Whatever our religious and spiritual beliefs, they are sacred and respected. We value compassion, caring, humility, selflessness, honesty, respectful communication and diversity.
We value everyone’s gender, gender identity and expression and strive for equality in that regard. Pejorative and bullying comments about based upon gender, gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation cannot be permitted.
Whether we are single, partnered with a man, woman, cis or trans person, or in a polyamorous relationship - what matters is that we love and care for our partners, friends, and family.
Sexual abuse or harassment is not tolerated.
We cannot have sexual health without sexual and reproductive rights.
While the world is changing, we will continue our efforts to change the world – through our interactions with each other, our patient care, education, research and public policy efforts. Our vision is to revolutionize the sexual climate – and we will continue to work towards that goal.
This great country has always been politically divided but the majority still values social justice, equality, and economic security for all. We will survive these uncertain times and in the end we will get stronger.
PHS has been around for over 45 years and we have always faced whatever challenge comes our way. Thank you all for your support. You make it possible for us to continue to create a sexually healthy climate.
