Summary

Dr. Taymy Josefa Caso, PhD, (they/them) is the Randi and Fred Ettner Postdoctoral Fellow in Transgender Health at the Institute for Sexual and Gender Health (ISGH) at the University of Minnesota Medical School’s Department of Family Medicine and Community Health. Dr. Caso is also a researcher at the National Center for Gender Spectrum Health. They earned their Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from New York University and are an Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Applied Psychology in the master’s program for Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness. Their research focuses on minority mental health disparities, intersectionality, and identity-based marginalization within LGBTQ+ BIPOC communities. Their advocacy and leadership work aims to utilize decolonizing pedagogy, social justice, and diversity inclusion to deconstruct institutional and systemic barriers to equity for communities of color. 

At PHS, Dr. Caso specializes in providing culturally-responsive individual and group psychotherapy services to Trans and Gender Diverse patients. Areas of subspecialty include BIPOC LGBTQ+ identity exploration, compulsive sexual behaviors, and sex offender treatment.They have been the recipient of several grants and awards, including: the NYU Samuel Eshborn Service Award, NYU Outstanding Research Contribution Award, César Chávez/Clara Hale Community Outreach Award, Ronald McNair/Arturo Alfonso Schomburg Academic Excellence Award, and the Arthur B. Zankel Urban Fellowship. These awards recognize scholarship, service, advocacy, and activism that support and empower marginalized and underrepresented communities.
